Lenovo is manufacturing powerful Android devices to compete with the race in the modern smartphone world. ZUK Z2 and Z2 Pro are the two latest devices from Lenovo released a few months back this year, both the devices carry decent specifications with powerful internal hardware and latest firmware. ZUK series may be sooner or later will get the Nougat update but still it’s not confirm, however if you wish to port the latest Nougat firmware on your device via custom ROM etc, then there are some requirements, like unlocking bootloader and flashing custom recovery. So in this guide we are going to guide you on each single step to unlock bootloader on Lenovo ZUK Z2 and ZUK Z2 Pro.
A device with bootloader unlocked is able to install custom recovery, root and all the customization stuff related to Android. The process of unlocking bootloader on ZUK Z2 and ZUK Z2 Pro is very similar to that of other devices so we are going to follow the same procedure below, just go ahead and follow the instructions carefully.
How to unlock bootloader on ZUK Z2 and ZUK Z2 Pro
Before you begin:

Create a necessary backup of your data
Backup is the most necessary part for your device, so we recommend you to create a secure backup of your data. The bootloader unlock will wipe all your data stored on internal storage.
Keep your battery fully charged or at least your device should have at least 80% charge at minimum
Android USB drivers for your device should be installed on your PC or download USB driver for your device (Necessary if your device is not detected by PC or to avoid any connectivity issue)

Enable USB debugging and check the Allow Mock Locations option too. To enable USB debugging in your device go to Setting >> Developer options >> USB debugging. USB debugging is meant for the development purpose hence it will ask you for the confirmation so tap OK to confirm.
Sometimes “Developer options” are not visible in device settings menu, so what you need to do is, go to Settings >> About device >> Software information and there you will see an option build number. Tap it 7 times until a pop up arises with a message that you are now a developer, that’s it now go back and the Developers option is visible in the settings menu.
Once you done with the above preparations now it’s time to unlock bootloader on ZUK Z2 and ZUK Z2 Pro. Just go ahead and follow the steps in sequence to avoid any issue while performing bootloader unlock process on ZUK Z2 and ZUK Z2 Pro.
Process to unlock bootloader on ZUK Z2 and ZUK Z2 Pro
Just follow the steps to unlock bootloader on ZUK Z2 and ZUK Z2 Pro.
Unlock your device and open Settings >> About device >> Note the serial number of your phone, you would need this in the next step of unlocking process.
Now open web browser on your PC and visit the Lenovo bootloader unlock page (Translate it into English from Chinese)
Navigate till end and accept the Terms and Conditions and click the blue “Carry on” button at the end.
On the next page choose your device from drop down menu and enter the serial number of your device you noted above.
Enter your email in the provide space, you will see a text in Chinese, that means an unlock key has been sent to your on the provided email address.
Open your mail box and download the attachment with name “unlock_bootloader.img”. Save the file in a specific folder.
Now connect your device to PC and open command window inside the same folder where you put the “unlock_bootloader.img” file earlier (to do so press shift+control and right mouse click on any empty space in the folder and click Open command window here)
Now type the following command to reboot your device into fastboot/bootloader mode.
“adb reboot bootloader”
Once your device boots into bootloader mode now type the following command to flash the unlock_bootloader.img file.
“fastboot -i 0x2b4c flash unlock unlock_bootloader.img”
You’ll get an output text like this, that means you have successfully flashed the file.

Now here is the final step to unlock your device bootloader, type
“fastboot -i 0x2b4c oem unlock-go”
This command will unlock the bootloader on your ZUK Z2 or Z2 Pro, now type “fastboot reboot” to reboot your device.
That’s it! You have successfully unlocked bootloader on ZUK Z2 and ZUK Z2 Pro. The device will perform a factory reset and then reboot so you need to be patient while the booting process.
