How to root Galaxy Note 7 [TWRP recovery method]

Follow the detailed tutorial to root Galaxy Note 7 including variant SM-N930F, N930FD, N930S, N930K, N930L. This the only root process available right now so you would need to flash the TWRP custom recovery for rooting process as the SuperSU root package is in the recovery flashable zip format. Just follow the below mentioned process to root and install TWRP on Galaxy Note 7 SM-N930F, N930FD, N930S, N930K, N930L.

Stock firmware is always root free or if you have already rooted your device on previous firmware then updating the firmware wipes previous root exploit and get your device back to stock condition. Although the root process is never recommended by the device manufacturer because rooting means you are going to make changing in the system files that could have effects on device performance.

This root process of Galaxy Note 7 has two steps, first we will install TWRP recovery and then swipe the SuperSU root package via recovery. How to root & install TWRP 3.0.2-0 on Galaxy Note 7

Before you begin:

Create a Backup of your Samsung device

Backup is the most necessary part for your device, so we recommend you to create a secure backup of your data.

Early Preparations:

You need to prepare your device for installing custom recovery, follow the below perquisites steps to keep the recovery installation process smooth without facing errors.

Keep your battery charged or at least your device should contain at least 80% charge before the flashing operation.

Android USB drivers for your device should be installed on your PC, or you can download USB drivers for Samsung

Enable USB debugging and check the Allow Mock Locations option too. To enable USB debugging in your device go to Setting >> Developer options >> USB debugging. USB debugging is meant for the development purpose hence it will ask you for the confirmation so tap OK to confirm.

Sometimes “Developer options” are not visible in device settings menu, so what you need to do is, go to Settings >> About device >> Software information and there you will see an option build number. Tap it 7 times until a pop up arises with a message that you are now a developer, that’s it now go back and the Developers option is visible in the settings menu

Once you done with the above preparations now it’s time to flash TWRP recovery on Galaxy Note 7.

Process to install TWRP recovery on Galaxy Note 7 via Odin

To install TWRP recovery on Galaxy Note 7, you need to download and extract Odin flash tool on PC. You can download Odin 3.10.6 from the below provided link.

Download Odin 3.10.6 [Just extract it]


Click the Odin.exe file in the extracted folder to run the Odin tool.


Now turn off your device and boot into Download Mode. Now turn on your device again by pressing and holding Home Button+Volume Down +Power Key simultaneously until you see a warning logo now press Volume up to boot your device into Download Mode.

Download Mode is the zone where you perform the installation related stuff, now connect your phone to your PC via USB cable.

You will be given the successful connection notification. The ID:COM box will turn Blue indicating that your device is now detected by Odin.


Now click the Option Tab in the Odin screen and make sure “Auto Reboot” & “F.Reset Time” options are checked on Odin.

Once done with the above steps now we are coming back to the main task, click the AP tab and choose the Tar (recovery) file you download above.

Now just click Start and wait for the installation process until completed.


You will see a “PASS” message in the ID:COM box once the TWRP recovery installation process is done by Odin.

Your device will reboot itself.

You have successfully installed TWRP recovery on Galaxy Note 7.

How to Root Galaxy Note 7

Download SuperSU-2.76: Here

You need to flash the SuperSU zip file via recovery to get root access on Galaxy Note 7.

Connect your device again with the PC and copy the downloaded SuperSU zip file on your phone.

Now type the following command to reboot your device to recovery mode. (Please note enable the USB debugging option from developer option as mentioned above).

“adb reboot recovery”

You will be taken to TWRP recovery mode. You can also perform the above operation using hardware keys combination.

Tap the install button and choose the SuperSU zip file and swipe the slider to confirm install.

Once the installation process is completed simply reboot your device.
